What Is The Difference Between Lotion & Body Butter?

What Is The Difference Between Body Lotion & Body Butter?

Great Question!

Great Question!

Simply Put. Lotions Are Formulated With Mostly Water Or Hydrosols (aromatic waters) To Create A Lighter Feel & Super Quick Absorption & Light Moisturization Of The Skin. They Are Created With A Higher Water Content & Little Amounts Of Oils Or Rich Moisturizing Ingredients.

Lotion Needs To Be Re-Applied Multiple Times Throughout The Day To Maintain The High Moisture Levels, & If You Are Anything Like Me, You Would Have To BATHE In Lotion To Feel The Moisture My Skin Desperately Seeks!!

Lotions Are Great HYDRATORS, But Not The Best MOISTURIZERS In My Opinion. They Do Serve Their Purpose Though & It’s Nice To Have This Option.

Body Butters On The Other Hand, Are Formulated & Blended With A Combination Of Vegetable Butters, Plant/Carrier Oils & Special Ingredients. Body Butters Do NOT Contain ANY Water OR Hydrosols. These Butters & Plant/Carrier Oils Contain Rich Essential Fats, Anti-Oxidants & Minerals That Tend To Feed, Nourish, Hydrate, Protect, Moisturize & Repair Your Skin At The Cellular Level. Allowing Your Skin To Truly Glow From The Inside Out Revealing Healthy & Flawless Skin Over Time With Continual Use.

Body Butters Do Not Need To Be Re-Applied As Often As A Lotion & Also Reduce Trans Epidermal Water Loss Because Body Butters Are Created With A High Concentration Of Pure Essential Fats & Oils. Providing A Coating Of Protection & Really Anchoring & Maintaining The Hydration & Moisture Levels Within The Skin.

Body Butters Come In So Many Different Formulations & Blends. They Can Feel Really Heavy Or Greasy, Or The Can Feel Super Light, But Yet Deeply Penetrating & Moisturizing With Little To No Greasy/Oily After Feel.

I Personally Do Not Use Lotion & If I EVER HAVE To Use One, My Skin Feels Disrespected & They Really Do Not Do Much For My Skin. I Need My Butters All Year Round, My Skin Cannot Be Any Happier!

What About You?  What Do You Prefer Lotions Which Are Lighter, Quick Absorbing & Light Moisture?  Or Do You Enjoy The Rich & Decadent Hydration & Moisturization A Body Butter Can Offer? Or Do You Love Both For Their Individual Characteristics? What Do You Tend To Reach For More Often Than Not?

Natural Deodorant V. Conventional Deodorant

Natural Deodorant Versus Conventional/Traditional Deodorants, Is One Better Than The Other? Read On To Decide For Yourself. You Will Learn A Whole Lot When It Comes To This Topic.

First Thing’s First, Our Bodies Are Designed To Sweat!

Water Is Released Through The Glands In The Skin, Evaporates Off The Skin & The Body Is Cooled.  We Have Built In Thermostats That Help Regulate Our Own Body’s Temperature. We Get Too Hot & Our Bodies Start To Produce Sweat To Help Cool Us Down, So That We Do Not Overheat & Die!!  So Dramatic, But So True. The Main Function Of Perspiration Is To COOL DOWN The Body.

#2 Producing Sweat Allow Our Bodies To Carry Out Unwanted Salts & Minerals.

What Is Sweat Comprised Of?

-Mostly Water (About 99%)

-Small Amounts Of Sodium, Potassium & Magnesium As Well As Other Electrolytes

-Small Amounts Of Pheromones

-Small Amounts Of Toxins

*Fun Fact, The Sweat Itself ISN’T What Smells, What Causes Sweat To Smell Is The Result Of The Bacteria Digesting & Essentially “pooping” The Sweat They Just Ate!! Yuck!

Let’s Welcome, The Deodorant/Antiperspirant Combo!!

What IS A Deodorant?

Simply Put, “A Deodorant Is a Substance That Is Used To Cover Or Mask Body Odor Due To Bacterial Breakdown Of Perspiration In The Armpits, Groin Area & The Feet.”

What IS An Antiperspirant?

Simply Put, “An Antiperspirant Is A Subclass Of Deodorants That Prevents Sweating By Blocking The Sweat Glands. Antiperspirants Can Be Used On A Wider Range Of Body Parts That Tend To Produce More Sweat & Can Cause An Inconvenience. Antiperspirants Are Composed Of Aluminum Salts That Work By Forming A Chemical Reaction With The Water In The Sweat To Form A Physical Plug, Which Is Deposited In The Sweat Duct, Producing A Blockage In The Areas That It’s Applied.”

What Is The Difference Between A Natural & Conventional Deodorant?

Natural Deodorants Are Composed Of Ingredients That Have NOT Been Chemically Altered & Are Found Abundantly In Nature. A Combination Of Ingredients That Are Sometimes Combined With Essential Oils For A Fragrant & Extra Nourishing Quality, Helping To Absorb Excess Moisture From The Skin & At the Same Time, Effectively Stopping Odor In Its Tracks.

Now, On The Opposing Side Of The Spectrum,

A Conventional Deodorant Is Composed Of A Group Of Ingredients That HAVE Been Chemically Altered & Are Not Naturally Sourced, But Ultimately Work At Keeping You Dry & Eliminate Foul Odor.

Conventional Deodorants Will Typically Also Contain An Antiperspirant Which Is Composed Of Aluminum In The Form Of Aluminum Salts Such As Aluminum Chlorohydrate. These Salts “Block” Your Sweat Ducts To Assist In Keeping You Dry. That Is Why You Will See Both Deodorant & Antiperspirant In One. To Eliminate Odors & Block Sweating.

Humans Secrete 2 Different Types Of Sweat:

Regular Sweating“ (i.e. Overheating- The Eccrine Glands Are Responsible For this Type Of Sweat. These Glands Pretty Much Cover Most Of Your Body, But Are More Densely Found On The Palms Of Hands, Soles Of Feet, Forehead & Armpits, But Do Not Exude An Unpleasant Scent.

Stress Sweating” The Worse!! (i.e. Emotions, Hormones Or Other Stressors- The Apocrine Glands Are Responsible For This Type Of Sweat & Foul Odor. They Are Larger & Produce The Majority Of Stress Related Sweat. These Glands Are Located In Areas Of Your Body That Contain More Hair, Such As Your Genitals & Underarms.

Interesting Bit Of Info, Did You Know, Your Underarms Produce About 30% More Sweat When You Are Stressed, Than When You Are At Rest?

But Continue Reading To See Why A LOT Of People Cannot Use Antiperspirants.

A Lot Of People Tend To Be Allergic To Aluminum Salts That Conventional Deodorants/Antiperspirant Duo May Typically Include. Salts Such As, Aluminum Chloride, Aluminum Zirconium & Chlorohydrate (aerosol variety) & Most Don’t Even Know WHY They Are Allergic To A Certain Brand Or A Particular Deodorant. Well, Now You Know. You Are Welcome!

Side Effects Of Aluminum Salts

-Irritation Of The Skin

-Itching

-Tingling Of The Skin

-Prickly Feeling

-Redness & Inflammation

Possible Serious Side Effects May Include The Flowing

-Hives

-Difficulty Breathing

-Swelling Of Face, Lips, Tongue Or Throat

There Are A Few Health Concerns When It Comes To This Product To The People That Are More Health Conscious.

Some Allegations Consist Of Statements, That Traditional Chemically Laden Deodorants That Contain Antiperspirant Can Cause Breast Cancer.

Because Of The “Plugging” Effect Of The Aluminum On The Skin, It Is Believed That, That “Blockage” Is Withholding The Release Of Toxins From The Body.  But Sweat Glands Were Not Fully Created To Have The Functionality Of “Purging” Toxins From The Body.

The Lymph Nodes That Are Located Deep In The Underarm Area Assist In The Filtration Of Toxins, As They Are Considered To Be Part Of The Immune & Filtration System. Although Frequent Use Of Antiperspirants Causes A Buildup Of Aluminum In Your Breast Tissue, This Does Not Prove That Aluminum Salts Can Cause Breast Cancer. But More Studies Need To Be Made In Regards To Aluminum Being Linked To One Of The Causes Of Breast Cancer.

Some Will Also State That, Conventional Deodorants Cause Alzheimer’s Disease.

In The 1960s A Few Studies Found High Levels Of Aluminum In The Brains Of People With Alzheimer’s Disease. Everyday Household Items Like Aluminum Cans, Antacids & Antiperspirants Were Called To Question, But The Findings Of This Early Study Could Not Be Replicated In Later Research. Since Then, There Hasn’t Been Definitive Evidence To Claim There Is A Link Between The Two.

But, There IS Scientific Evidence Declaring That Aluminum, In Antiperspirants CAN Cause Health Issues To People Who Suffer From Kidney Disease. Aluminum Is Definitely A Greater Concern Especially If Your Kidney(s) Function At About 30% Or Less. Overexposure To Aluminum, Especially Through The Use Of Antiperspirants Can Cause The Body To Have Diseases Or Dementia.

Reason Being, Normal Working Kidneys Processes & Filters The Aluminum From The Antiperspirant That Is Being Absorbed Through The Skin, Whereas People With Weakened Kidney Function, Cannot Filter Aluminum Fast Enough. This Is The Reason The FDA Requires Antiperspirant Labels To Include A Special Warning For People With Kidney Disease.

Whew! That Sure Was A LOT To Digest Huh?!

Well, With All Of THAT Being Said, Lucky For YOU, You Have Options!!

Nature’ Preserve Will Be Launching An All Natural Deodorant With Clean & Nourishing Ingredients Summer Of 2022!! More To Come!
